How to Download and Install RealPlayer

These instructions will help you download and use the RealPlayer to view the Effective Schools League Tour. You may find it useful to print these instructions so you can refer to them as you download Acrobat.

What you do What you see
Go to http://www.real.com/player/index.html
Click on RealPlayer 7 Basic (in the lower-left or far-right portion of the window). RealPlayer 7 Plus is also available for purchase, although the Basic version works just as well for the League tour.
Key in the requested information on the form, including your OS and CPU. If you are using a Macintosh computer, follow the links as directed on the page.

Click on Download FREE RealPlayer 7 Basic.

You will be asked to choose between Complete, Standard, and Minimal selections. The Minimal version is sufficient for the League Tour, and requires the shortest download time. Select the appropriate option and click on Download FREE RealPlayer7 Basic.
You will be asked to select a location from which to download. Click on any of the links for a city near you.
You will be asked to select a location on your hard drive to save this file. Select an appropriate location and remember it for future reference.
If you are given the option to run the file you just downloaded, do so. If not, use Windows Explorer (in Windows) or the Desktop (for Macintosh) to locate and double-click on the file you downloaded.
Follow the prompts to install RealMedia Player. The defaults are almost always appropriate.
You should now be ready to read the RealPlayer version of the tour. If you experience any difficulty in using RealPlayer, you may need to reboot your computer and try again.

Some suggestions if you have trouble

I can't get the tour to run at all
It may be that you do not have a new enough version of RealPlayer. Ensure that you have RealPlayer G2 or Version 7. If you are uncertain, or continue to have difficulty, we recommend that you download and install a newer version.

After installing RealPlayer, you may need to reboot your computer.

The pictures of the tour appear garbled or very strange
If your display is set to a limited number of colors (i.e., less than 256), the screen images will probably not look very good on the screen.

You can view and adjust the number of colors for your monitor in the Control Panels (the Display Control Panel in Windows and the Monitors Control Panel on the Macintosh).

Some or all of the pictures seem to be missing when I run the tour
If you select the Fast Connection option but your connection is not fast enough, you may not see the images. Try the Slow/Modem Connection option instead.

Can I test my Real Play installation somehow?
To test your RealPlayer, you may want to visit the National Public Radio web site and click on the links to listen to the news.
