Web Page Description
The Effective Schools League is an on-line, membership-based community of educators dedicated to improving schools based upon effective schools research. Because it is based upon the World Wide Web, it is always available from anywhere you have access to the Internet.

Each member of the League has a unique user name and password that is required to enter the League web site.

When you log in to the League, you are taken to the front page which shows you headlines and the main menu of options.
The community headlines draw your attention to topics of broad concern to the global community, which includes all members of the League, or to the local community, which includes League members in your own school or district. You can either view additional information about a headline, or you can join a discussion on that topic.

Community headlines may originate from the global League community, or they may be generated by designated members within your own local community. The discussions regarding these headlines may then take place in either of those contexts.

The main menu gives you access to the general categories of information, activities, and interaction available within the League.
The Views & Information option provides a variety of resources for educators interested in school improvement through effective schools research. These resources include opinion pieces, background material, information about conferences and events, and pointers to key web-based resources.
One of the richest resources in the Effective Schools League is the Effective Schools Research NETwork. This network includes a database of summaries of the most practical and informative educational research published over the past 20 years.
Each summary answers three fundamental questions about the research publication: What did the researchers do? What did the researchers find? And what are possible implications for school improvement? All of these answers are provided in a concise format, written from the perspective of practicing educators in the light of effective schools research.
Because there are more than 1,000 summaries in the Research NETwork, the capability is included to search for summaries by topics, such as Effective Instruction, High Expectations, and School Improvement, by author, or by keywords, such as Middle Schools, Violence, or Nongraded Elementary. You can also search for any text within the summary.
Once you locate a summary, you can mark it as one of your favorites, and add your own notes about what it says.

You can also send a copy of the summary to colleagues for their consideration.

Each summary can also serve as the basis for a discussion with other members of the League or just with your own local community. Such discussions might include conversing with other school personnel regarding specific strategies they have tried in implementing this research or lessons they have learned in putting it into practice.
As you can see, the Effective Schools League is a rich environment for collaboration and interaction among educators around the country. We invite you to join with us so that, together, we may achieve the mission of learning for all.
